To Platform Mediums - How did you decide when to go public?
07/21/12 at 06:21:08

I am a medium, and have been considering when to start platform work. I am curious for other mediums how and when did you make the decision to start working on platform? For me I am speaking specifically of working in a spiritualist church as a guest medium, but for those of you who are not spiritualist, I'm just looking for a parallel to going public in a group presentation setting with your skills on a regular basis. Thanks for your input! Smiley

A long time ago, if an unknown medium whose credentials could not be verified were to ask if he/she could do platform work the medium would have to go through an evaluation. First the medium would talk with most or all of the platform mediums and be asked questions that would show the unknown medium's knowledge and intent. If the answers were satisfactory, the unknown medium would then be asked to sit in circle with the platform mediums and this time the unknown medium and his/her guides would be questioned. If the circle was satisfactory, the platform mediums would than ask the unknown medium to give each of them some part of their personal history that would be unknown to the newcomer. If that turned out to be satisfactory, the unknown medium would be presented to the Minister and he/she would make a final determination. Only then would the unknown medium be allowed onto the platform as a "student" medium and be allowed to give one message after all the other platform mediums had given their messages.
It is unlikely you will stumble upon a Spiritualist Church with those kinds of restrictions today, but if you do you would be both fortunate and wise to become a member.

Restricting novices

I just wanted to add that the restrictions that were placed upon novices was even greater. It often took 1/2 a year to 2 years before a person was considered well enough trained to meet their Spirit Guides. Then, only after you had met your Guides would you even consider learning enough to become a medium.
Today people who don't know the rules, who aren't trained, and who are armed with parroted/misunderstood information, rush in where wise men fear to tread. So it's no wonder that a large part of this board is devoted to people who are in trouble.

PS: When I first went to a Spiritualist Church, the Minister refused to allow me to sit in circle because I was listening to negative spirits. I was both offended and sorry, because I was sure I was destined for greatness. More than two decades later I realized that I was still listening to negative spirits and decided to do something (positive) about it. That now deceased Minister became one of my early Spirit Guides and started me along a better path.

THank you so much for your response. I did express my desire to work on the platform, but as of yet have not been asked. This may have to do with other matters which I wont go into though. I found this strange because in the past I have been pushed up on the platform when I was unprepared. So when I finally felt ready I was eager to give it another go. Well I will just sit back and if its meant to be it will come in its own time I suppose. THanks for the background info though!
