The best way I could explain seeing auras to you is you look at the person, and "unfocus" your eyes. Your actual eyes are open and you are actually going to see the aura around them. At first your eyes may be sore unless you're around someone with a lot of energy. The best place to practice would be on a teacher lecturing a class, someone on stage, etc. Someone talking and using a lot of energy at the time.

At first, you will probably not see colors and if you do, BRAVO!! But most people just starting only see a sort of... white outline of the body. Another thing that could help you see the actual colors is unfocusing your eyes, staring a little to the right/left of the person for a while, and then shutting your eyes. You will see an "afterimage" when you close your eyes and when you do that you can see the colors sometimes better that way.
