Actually, I've had something like this happen back when, but not exactly like you described it, but something of the sort. It helped me lot lose a chess game. I remember it very vividly, but haven't really told anyone about it.

So, the story's basically - me and my friend are playing chess. It's a good game, both sides have claimed a piece here and there. What I didn't notice is that I left myself open for a checkmate in two moves by him. He made the first move, which seemed to me random and pointless. I didn't think much, reached for a piece to pin some other piece on the other side of the board and then I felt something like a vision, but not exactly. Like something implanted a whole memory into me. Like it had just thought it through I knew his plan for my king, like I went through his thought process myself, but it was in an instant. A quick flash of understanding in less time it took me to reach for the piece, so now knowing what he was going to do I moved a pawn forwards breaking his checkmate.

It was pretty strange and I had no clue what had happened there, because I wasn’t even looking at that side of the board anymore. Could have been a dream for how long ago that was. I’d be happy if anyone could shed some light on that etc.

But yeah, to answer your question – I do believe that it’s possible for minds to connect, however I think it is very difficult and even rare. You seem to have a bit of control over it, or in the worst case – got the hand dealt that lets you have this connection more often than once a yonk.

But I dunno, I’m not an expert on this, these are mostly just my thoughts and experiences, I’d be glad if anyone weighed in on this some more.
