Is this website christian or christian-based?
04/29/12 at 13:45:42

I have noticed a lot of members here writing about God and Jesus, Heaven and hell, angels and demons, and I was wondering if this website is christian or not.

I feel like I have to be very careful voicing my buddhist-agnostic beliefs here, as I know many people who believe in God are very, erh... Easily offended.

I don't believe in an ultimate good or evil power, I don't really believe in heaven or hell, and although I do believe in good and malevolent spirits, I don't think there's such a thing as angels. Nor do I believe a human can be entirely good or evil, and I therefore don't believe in the somewhat black/white system of heaven and hell.
...I respect those who do, though.

I believe in a near-eternal circle of reincarnations, and although I do believe there is powers and entities out there we can't see or prove/disprove yet, I don't believe that a power is higher than me. Not entirely anyways. While I do believe there are many stronger and larger forces out there than mine, I don't think there is a definite ranking system. We're all sorta equals in my eyes, y'know? (Btw, I also don't believe in mythical creatures such as unicorns of fairies or mothmen or little green men or whatever...)

Am I misplaced here?
Should I find another website?

(I know that spiritualism, paganism and christianity isn't the same, but in my opinion, any belief which revolves around the black/white view of good and evil, and an omnipotent, single creator of sorts, seems very christian-based to me.)

Hello, its me again!  Grin

I know this isn't a Christian website. It is one which has many people of many faiths even satan-worshippers. It is only that Christians are a lot more vocal about their faith in this forum and therefore love to share it. Nothing wrong with that at all, it only shows their passion for their beliefs.

You can believe in angels and have discussions about those subjects without being Christian too.

You will find that many people will be offended by others faith no matter where you go in life, whether it is this forum or another one. It is just how the world is. But having a discussion about faith doesn't need to turn ugly and they are entitled to their opinion. Don't be worried about what they might think or whether they will attack you. People who do that are swiftly dealt with.

If you feel misplaced here then it is something YOU are feeling not something the website is causing. The problem isn't without but within as they say. But if you will feel more comfortable at another forum then you should go there because it will do you more good than staying. Always do what you feel is right.  Smiley

I do like this forum a lot, I just sometimes feel like I can't be part of lots of the discussions.
The people who believe in Aliens and the ones who believe in God are both so set in their ways that many of them tend to talk about their beliefs as if it is the ultimate truth, and everyone else just doesn't belive what they do because we're ignorant or have decided not to or just haven't listened to thie talks enough or talked to whatever spirits appeared in their dreams or something.

I guess I'm just feeling a little left out lately, and wondering if people like me, sceptical semi-agnostic semi-buddhists are welcome or positively noticed here, or if you guys would rather I took my beliefs elsewhere :/

You don't always have to be part of the discussion or you can jump right in there and tell them what you think about it even if your opinion conflicts with theirs. If people cannot deal it is their problem.

This is all what you think, Nova.  Grin It isn't what I think or others. If you believe people in a forum on the internet do not like you then you could be projecting your fears onto them. I haven't seen anything which would suggest otherwise (I have only see a few examples in the past where the skeptics have been met with hostility but the posters beliefs and opinions were being challenged, would you not react somewhat negatively if someone did the same to you)

If you feel that way because people do not reply to your posts or you do not have many replies, then do not worry because that is the case with EVERYONE! I mean, only a few threads at one time have more than a few replies that are decent (as one usually doesn't count the one-liners or the ones which make no sense at all).

Again, I stress for you to do what you are comfortable with. If you want to make a effort then make one, if you want to find a forum where you feel better in, then do it!  Smiley
