From Webster's dictionary:

Definition of DEMON

a : an evil spirit
b : a source or agent of evil, harm, distress, or ruin

usually daemon : an attendant power or spirit : genius

usually daemon : a supernatural being of Greek mythology intermediate between gods and men

Personally, being a witch, I do not trust demons and believe they are evil, by their own choice. Nor do I lend them much thought because, again, being a witch, I do not want anything to do with them. This is my just my opinion.

Alright.

I agree with you, but I'm going to mention this, too:

Did you know that before Christianity, a demon was a being that was like a god but not as strong or influential? Of course, even before then, many of these demons were evil, though most only existed like faeries or nymphs.

Obviously, I'm not an expert, though.

Demons are evil and I would never trust them. They are capable of taking your energy, they may of been a being like a god in the past but that doesn't mean they are good any longer.

However I would discount the fact that every negative spirit is a demon, demons are more of the higher levels of negativity, as mentioned they are evil spirits. When there are individuals that mention they have a demon attached or whatever, it could simply be a spirit who is just angry and takes their anger out at them or a negative spirit who is just completely nasty. I would check to make sure if you are dealing with a demon, before counting the fact it really is one.
