The myth of Freewill
01/25/12 at 11:47:50

FREEWILL.. or the freedom of will; or the right to decide whether you will: Follow-or-Lead your will...??

We like to call it "will-power", we have this power bc we have the freedom to choose to Follow our will (to satisfy a particular desire) &/or to Lead our will (not to satisfy a particular desire).

This freedom results in our ability to control our Fate. Whether our lives consist of the most pleasure with the least pain.. the most pleasure with the most pain.. or any combination of the two. Wink Which brings up fate..

FATE.. or the result of our own actions after we have made a choice.
Usually following the biggest decision; whether to follow or lead our will. In truth, one comes with the other~Freewill & Fate..both in our hands! Will you satisfy your particular Will and thus live out that Fate? or not satisfy your particular Will and thus live out that Fate? Choice is your's.. Smiley

Freedom is sweet; the power to Lead your will. And thus; control your Fate.

That freedom is man's. What he chooses will result in his fate & possibly the fate of all men if it is a big enough man to effect others... but this is Not punishment! His fate is just being realized from the result of his own actions~ from either; Following or Leading his will.

......OH YEAH!!
(( Grin  I just Smiley kool-aid man!! ))

I like the scientific perspective, too, which essentially presumes there is no freewill. Our idea of freewill is like a much more complicated mechanism of rolling a die. When we roll a die, we could say we have a one in six chance of getting any given number and that it is random, but that's really not the case. If we were aware of all the variables: The formula of gravity weighing down on our toss, the strength we use to toss the die, the direction, the spin, the surface it will land, and the number it was on when we tossed it, we could essentially accurately predict what it will land on and where. It's the same for human behaviour or will, if truly, we were capable of controlling all the variables or at least observing them, we could predict how a human would progress through life from the moment of birth to their last breath.

Interesting take kindly..I regret the "satisfy/not to satisfy" words though, obviously it's not the best example. Following one's will can bring about beneficial consequences..just requires using your better judgement to ascertain the outcome beforehand.  Smiley

Really the only struggle with either leading or following is the answer to the question, "what are you setting yourself up for?" ..or how are you setting up your fate? ..and of course there's such a thing as happenstance to add in there, and that alone can throw off your set-up in less time then it takes to blink!! Smiley

I just wanted to also say; I've noticed that a little misspoke can send ppl off to meanings I never meant. That's why I really try to spill it correctly. ~Sometimes though, they take-off on their own despite my spillage. Spin it to fit their belief constructs..sorta like how some ppl on Yahoo Answers choose a 'best answer', ..whoever is closest to what they would've said... Huh

I'm the same way some times so don't see me on any kind of soap box. Just wish more times My meanings would be taken in. I swear that can make a person feel a stranger in their own land.  Undecided

Predestined to have free-will.

If free will exists, there is no way a person could see the future.

If psychics exist, there is no way true free will can exist because it would imply decisions were already determined.

Liked your post Kool_Aid_Man (yeah, I know I changed your name a little - it's that free will thing lol). Your thoughts were well put and I understood exactly what you were saying.

It is something to think about, though, how free will can change an outcome of a chain of events depending on the choice. Could it be that precognitive dreams and/or visions have seen the choices that will be made? Who know?

But this I know, we are born with free will. Do with it as you will.
